Emotional Healing (Energetic) Detox

“Let go of toxic control, in order to regain healthy control.”
― Kayla Rose Kotecki

Many of us have heard of and or are familiar with the concept of detoxing, often which is about a physical detox of the body. Some have even undergone some form of detoxification themselves.  When we think about detox, most people associate it with removing and eliminating sugar, gluten, processed foods, meat, dairy and alcohol for a particular period of time, while possibly using an organic herbal product to aid in cleansing their system.

The reality is that real detoxing takes more than a week or two. It takes time. For many people, depending upon their age and lifestyle, it may take several months to really give their body a chance to cleanse, recover, replenish, and restore. The body has an innate ability to cleanse and heal itself, but when it's bombarded and congested, it may require some help to do it's job. Thus physical detoxing can be helpful in helping one reboot their own body’s chance of cleansing  itself and healing naturally.

So, what about the INNER detox? The  EMOTIONAL detox that is?

It is important to understand how the negative emotions (anger, sadness, frustration, fear, anxiety, jealousy, low self esteem etc.) one may hold within, can often times be an even greater cause of stress, and eventually and long term lead to chronic disease. The Negative emotions that people have inside them, can really hold them captive.

Our emotions are reflected and imprinted in our cells. In the research and book "The Molecules of Emotion" written by internationally renowned neuro-scientist and pharmacologist,  the late Dr. Candace Pert, she shows that the emotions we feel can impact and change the biology of our cells. Our cells are affected by both positive and negative emotions. Hence, good emotions like joy, love, kindness, compassion, empathy, happiness, and bliss parlay into new (healthy) cell growth.

On the opposite spectrum, negative emotions do exactly the opposite. They send signals to our cells that interrupt normal cell regeneration. Negative emotions can build up in our bodies and this can weigh heavily on our minds, spirits and bodies when ignored.

Just as a physical detox removes the chemicals and other toxins that make us sick, an emotional healing detox will help cleanse all the negative emotions that plague our minds and souls. Toxic emotions build up over time and begin to have an impact on our relationships, careers and overall stress levels. Our bodies even begin to take a toll.

How to Know if You Need an Emotional Healing Detox

Life is a big roller-coaster ride with ups, downs, twists and turns. Experiencing extreme emotions is part of what makes us human. We face challenges daily that cause us to experience negative emotions. And while almost everyone can benefit from an emotional healing detox, anyone currently experiencing toxic emotions may want to start sooner than later.

Here are a few signs you need an emotional healing detox:

Negative Emotions

If you are or know anyone that is experiencing negative emotions or thoughts, should consider an emotional healing cleanse.

  • Anger

  • Resentment

  • Regret

  • Hurt

  • Discouragement

  • Bitterness

  • Shame

  • Sorrow

  • Powerlessness

  • Jealousy

“There is an enormous physical burden to being hurt and disappointed,” said Dr. Karen Swartz, the director of the Mood Disorders Adult Consultation Clinic at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Overtime, any or all of these negative emotions can build up and begin to harm our mental and physical health. “Chronic emotions, such as anger and hurt, can lead to an increased heart rates, higher blood pressure, and poor immune response, all of which can ultimately lead to higher risk of depression, heart disease, diabetes, and other serious conditions.”

Weakened Immune System

When your immune system is down, your overall health is at risk. This is a good sign that you need an emotional healing detox. Among many other contributing factors, chronic stress is a primary cause of a weakened immune system. Chronic stress as result of negative emotions can certainly have a harmful effect on your immune system.

Stress and other negative feelings can make it harder to recover from an illness, according to the American Psychological Association (APA). In one study, cardiac patients with chronic stress faced higher risks and poorer outcomes than those not experiencing stress. (3) Plus, stress and other negative emotions can also make pre-existing conditions worse. For example, a different study showed that half of all participants were able to reduce chronic headache pain by not constantly thinking about and focusing on the pain. (4)

Gut and Digestive Health

There’s an old saying that says, “The quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” But did you know that the quickest way to the stomach is through the brain. In fact, the brain has a direct impact on gastrointestinal health, and negative emotions can have an impact. Emotions, such as anger, anxiety and sadness, can all trigger symptoms in your gut.

These symptoms can include nausea, upset stomach, re-flux and leaky gut. People who experience gastrointestinal issues on a regular basis have seen significant results after an emotional healing cleanse.

“Psycho-social factors influence the actual physiology of the gut, as well as symptoms,” according to a review conducted by Harvard Medical School.  “In other words, stress (or depression or other psycho-social factors) can affect movement and contractions of the GI tract, make inflammation worse, or perhaps make you more susceptible to infection.”

The review, which looked at 13 different studies, found that patients who tried psychologically-based methods in addition to orthodox medical treatments, saw a larger improvement in digestive health issues than those treated with conventional methods alone.

Your emotions are intricately connected to your biophysical body. The emotional component of your health plays a vital part in your overall wellness. It all works together.
