Bowen Therapy- Bowen First
"A Bowenwork practititioner acknowledges the body's innate intelligence and ability to heal itself."- Sandra Gustfason
I help my patients and clients discover that health is freedom, not only on a
physical level, but on an emotional, mental and spiritual level as well. Through Bowen
Therapy she has learned to listen to the body to help facilitate the body's natural and
innate ability to help itself.
Our sensory-motor systems repeatedly respond to trauma and everyday stresses via
muscular reflexes. As long as the body’s defenses are hyper-activated, healing will not
take place. Thus, for effective results, we must acknowledge and respect the body’s
criteria for healing.
As a BowenFirst™ practitioner, I set the framework and provide the environment in
which the body can best initiate this healing process.
The Bowen Therapy's gently resetting of the physical body encourages the brain to re-
wire and reset to patterns that preceded injury and regain it's own blueprint for health.
To summarize Bowen Therapy initiates a communication process by which the body
will address shifts as needed. This generally occurs over a five to seven day period.
Healing may not be so much about getting better, as about letting go of everything that isn't you all of the expectations, all of the beliefs and becoming who you are. ~ Rachel Naomi Remen
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Therapy is an internationally recognised form of body work in which the practitioner applies subtle, rolling hand movements to the client's muscles and connective tissues (fascia). These actions prompt the body's natural healing process without painful manipulation. Developed in Australia in the 1950s to 1980s, there are now thousands of Bowen practitioners worldwide.
The Bowen moves produce a powerful healing response in the body that improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, aids in the assimilation of nutrients and assists with the elimination of toxins. This response not only affects the musculoskeletal framework but also the fascia, nervous system and internal organs. Through the effect on the nervous system, the body relaxes and is able to start the healing process, correcting dysfunctions and restoring balance on a holistic level. This produces relief from pain, stress and illness, regardless of the cause.
Clients with a new injury often respond immediately and even those with long term problems can experience dramatic improvement after the first treatment.
Bowen Therapy is safe and recommended for everyone from highly trained athletes to pregnant women, newborn babies, children and the elderly.
After a treatment most people feel relaxed yet energised and alert, ready to resume their day. Regular Bowen treatments help keep energy levels high and protect against stress, injuries and illness.
Because Bowen Therapy initiates a healing process, it is best not to have any other type of body or energy work 5 days either side of the Bowen treatment.
